REEPHAM & DISTRICT ROTARY

For the second year running the Club ran an Old Time Music Hall in Reepham High School.  We had a full house of 180 people and were entertained from a team from Sussex.  Bangers and mash were supplied to the audience at half time and they needed it after hearing Rotary members singing their barber shop songs.  They also needed a few glasses of alcohol!
Nearly £3,500 was raised for charities on the evening, which made all the hard work very worthwhile.

THE BECK W.I.
Little did we know as we turned up for our April meeting, that a surprise awaited us. We had been expecting a talk on Film, T.V. and Show World. Instead, we were privileged to meet Annabel and her Guide Dog, Amy. With only fractional sight in one eye, Annabel has been registered blind from birth. Amy, a black glossy-coated retriever, although Annabel's third dog, is only 20 months old.
We found Annabel's talk fascinating, interesting and extremely informative as she told us of the strict training that the dogs undergo, and the wonderful work done by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. We thanked her too, for coming at such short notice.
After saying goodbye to Annabel and Amy, we discussed future events, and Ruth read the Minutes from last month.
The exhibition was won by Yvonne, 2nd Mary Humphrey. The raffle was won by Mary Humphrey.
We meet again on 12th May - at the Old School Room, Sparham, at 7.30 p.m. when we will be able to discuss the forthcoming Resolutions.
We look forward to seeing everyone, and new members are always welcome.
Mary Humphrey.

ELMHAM SURGERY MOVES FORWARD

Plans for the enlargement of Elmham Surgery that the parish council passed on to the district council for a final decision carry the prospect of a significant expansion of the services provided by the practice. The plans, which have been discussed in outline with the Patient Participation Group, involve the entire front of the building being brought forward, using about 6 car-park spaces.

The extension will provide extra room on two floors. On the ground floor, the intention is to give more space to the dispensary and thus help to cut down on the queues of people waiting to get prescriptions - an issue which has occupied a lot of the patient group’s attention. Another step that has already been taken to help alleviate this problem has been the scheme to deliver repeat prescriptions to people over 60 using village post offices as distribution-points.

The doctors’ plans for the surgery extension include a lift for patient access to the upper floor. There is provision for a mental health team. Another project that’s being investigated is the possibility of a dental clinic.

The entire scheme is tied to the plans to provide space for staff cars behind the surgery, freeing  perhaps another 15 spaces in the front. The difficulty is that the new services could generate more patients arriving in cars.
