 REEPHAM & DISTRICT ROTARY CLUB

Club members organised the Art Exhibition at the Aylsham Show and raised a record amount of money of nearly £1,500, which is going to this year’s charity, East Anglian Air Ambulance Appeal.

At a recent meeting, last years President Cliffie Harmer presented a cheque for £4,000 to the Crossroads Charity. This is a local organisation that employs people to give respite to families where they have to look after elderly relatives to relieve them from their commitments.

The club welcomed new member David Baxter – an accountant from Tuddenham.  This now brings the membership up to 28, which is the strongest it has been since the club started in 1989.

Looking forward to Christmas, members are to erect the Christmas tree in the Market Place, which is going to be bigger and better than ever.  It will be erected earlier this year in time for the Chamber of Commerce Charity evening, which is being held on Wednesday 3rd December. They have invited a special guest to turn on the Christmas tree lights.  Robert Buxton has found a suitable tree but we are going to have to acquire a few more lights!

We are holding a ‘Snow Ball’ on Monday 8th December by kind permission of our Vice President Robert Briggs in a marquee in his garden.  This will be a fundraising event and all proceeds will go to East Anglian Air Ambulance Appeal.  Tickets will be available from club members.

BECK WI

Aleathia opened our November meeting by welcoming members and introducing Florence Lloyd, who as a W. I. Adviser, was making her second visit to Sparham to take us through the Rules of electing a new committee. This she quickly did and the result was:- President - Aleathia. Committee members - Carol, Colleen, Janet, Jean and Ruth.

The Annual Report was read by Ruth. Aleathia then thanked Margaret Peachment for presiding over the last two meetings, and committee members for their help over the past year. She took us briefly through the balance sheet she had prepared and which was available for us to look at more closely.

After the tea interval, we enjoyed a short Quiz. The raffle was won by Aleathia and the exhibition by Margaret Peachment, 2nd Carol.

No meeting in December.

Our Christmas Dinner is on Tuesday 16th December.
