FRIENDS OF
BAWDESWELL CHURCH
2003 was a highly successful and enjoyable first year for the Friends of Bawdeswell Church.

The events started with the Race Night in February which was very popular and well-attended.  A lot of fun was had by all.

In June we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the laying of the church foundation stone, with an entertaining talk by John Timpson about his life as a reporter first on the Dereham & Fakenham Times and then at the BBC.  He had reported on the rebuilding of our church for the local newspaper.  The evening was capped by a very good ploughman’s supper served in a marquee.

In September we had a Harvest Supper and Barn dance cum Ceilidh.  This too was a huge success.  Not only did everybody take to the dance floor, but the harvest supper of hog roast and feast of puddings was an experience  people are still talking about.

In December a Christmas Tree Festival was organised.  Disappointingly this was thinly attended by local people but drew visitors from across the county thanks to the EDP and Radio Norfolk.  There were trees decorated by the Book Club, the School children, and various individuals – all very different and very beautiful.  You can still see pictures of all 14 trees on the internet at www.bawdeswell.net/friendsofthechurch .
Winner of “How Many Lights are there?” was D R Stack of Reepham. (720)

On the Sunday afternoon of the Festival there was a Christmas Concert in the church with James Lilwall and Friends and a section of the School choir. The children loved it, especially joining in the choruses of Chitty,Chitty,Bang,Bang and other well known songs.  Once again there followed a feast.

So the Friends are becoming known for having fun and enjoying food!
The Programme for 2004 is on the next page.
