VILLAGE HALL
The official re-opening of Foxley Village Hall took place on the evening of Friday 4th June. The festive event was attended by 74 residents and neighbourhood guests and was an enjoyable social occasion. Wine and canapes prepared by Sharon Wheller were provided and one or two displays of local skills were on display – namely the first batch of tapestry kneelers now ready for St Thomas Church and some samples of the work of two quite different artists in the village, Ken Walton and Samantha Elmhurst. The Reepham Learning Community had a display and the Local Bowls Club and Social Club were represented. Chairman of the Village Hall Committee, Dennis Barrett, gave us a detailed background to the refurbishment project and acknowledged the financial help given by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN), Breckland Council, Norfolk Rural Community Council and the Dereham Area Partnership, as well as a number of events held in the village. He also praised local builder Nicholas Mears for the fine job he had done and applauded him for coming in under budget. Keith Greentree performed the official opening, recounting to us some humorous memories of other village halls he had visited in the past. The village hall is certainly quite transformed from the draughty place it used to be. It has an excellent floor now, a suspended ceiling with good lighting, new double-glazed windows and a bright look about it. The kitchen and toilet facilities have been upgraded to a high standard. Congratulations
to all who worked so hard to achieve this transformation and turn Foxley
Village Hall into such an attractive and practical venue for all to use.

BAWDESWELL
PARISH COUNCIL - EXTRACTS OF MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 1st JUNE 2004 AT 7.30
PM.
IN THE VILLAGE HALL PRESENT: Councillors Hind (Chairman), Lilwall, Mallen, McColville, Swain and Wallace. 10 Parishioners APOLOGIES: Councillor Copeman. Mrs. I. Floering Blackman(CC) and Mr. G. Bambridge(DC) MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Agreed and signed. DEVELOPMENT/EXPANSION OF VILLAGE: A discussion took place on the changes Bawdeswell and its Parishioners were willing to accept in view of the proposed changes in the Local Development Plan. The main items raised were worries about the Infrastructure (sewerage, water, electricity etc), traffic, capacity of school, affordable housing, facilities at doctors surgery and bus routes. It was decided to appoint a sub-committee to look at the village environment and note sites which could be used for more housing and the extra facilities Bawdeswell would require. Councillors Mallen, Wallace and Swain agreed to serve on this Committee and report back at July meeting. Clerk to invite David Spencer Breckland's Planning Officer to PC meeting September/October. BAWDESWELL VILLAGE HALL: The Village Hall has not been used to its full capacity due to lack of facilities, bad roadway and the layout which is not always suitable for occasions. The roadway has been improved and the new Hall Management Committee are working extremely hard to raise funds for improvements and have recently purchased new tables and chairs. HOWEVER MORE VOLUNTEERS are needed to look into ways of raising funding for an extension (new kitchen, bar facilities, showers/changing rooms and small function hall), new children’s play area etc. PLANNING: - Land at Reepham Road - 10 dwellings - Breckland have asked the developers to look at including more affordable housing in PA and are awaiting new plans - PC to be kept fully informed. - 3 and 4 Chaucer Close - erection of fences (retrospective ) PC to ask that these PA's do not set a precedent in future PA's for fencing.
