FOXLEY
BOWLS CLUB
On Friday 1st November 2002, Foxley Bowls club held their Annual Dinner and Prize Giving Evening at the Natterjack. It was extremely well attended, with the numbers being swelled by some members bringing along their non-playing partners. The meal was of the usual high standard; and with Landlord David being on form with his customary service and banter, the atmosphere was both pleasant and convivial. When
the meal was finally cleared, the Prize Giving section of the evening began.
First, we were treated to a very humorous speech by the Bowls Committee
Chairman, Gordon Whitmore; it was in keeping with the light-heartedness
of the occasion. Then afterwards he brought us to the main reason
for our gathering: he and Bob Dewing began calling up the winners
to take their well deserved cups and medals.
With the presentations completed, the Chairman then called our attention to the sterling work done over the past year by our founder and ‘Skipper’, Bob Dewing. All the facilities the club enjoys, the early instruction, and all the enthusiasm engendered was totally brought about by Bob’s unstinting time and efforts. A true stalwart. When the evening finally closed, I think we all made our way home with warm and enthusiastic thoughts of a successful ‘bowling year’ to come. Although
our membership numbers are close to the maximum we can accommodate, if
other people are interested in playing bowls please contact Bob Dewing

FOXLEY COMPUTER COURSE Over
the past five weeks, every Tuesday afternoon, nine Foxley residents and
one from Bawdeswell have been taking a “Beginners Course in Computing”
in the Village Hall. This was under the auspices of West Anglia
College, who supplied the instructor, Mr. James Mitchell, along with the
ten laptops. The course has proved so successful that the College
has been persuaded to proceed with five more weeks of a more advanced nature.
The pupils, who have advanced from “Computer illiterate” to “Computer literate”
(or nearly so) would like to thank Mr. John Driver, a member of the Village
Hall Committee, for arranging all this. What would we do without
our Village Hall! D.B.
