FRIENDS OF BAWDESWELL CHURCH

The 50th Anniversary celebration was a great success.  We got off to a good start with a two page spread in the EDP Sunday supplement a week before, and this generated quite a lot of interest.  (If you missed this excellent article, it is still on the EDP website  www.edp24.co.uk   under the Hidden Norfolk series.)

The evening with John Timpson drew an audience of over 116 people and we were greatly entertained by anecdotes and stories from his most interesting career.  Laughter is a good medicine and we enjoyed a good measure of that.
We are very grateful to Sue Lilwall and friends for decorating the church so beautifully with flowers for the occasion and for the nice supper and drinks that were laid on afterwards.
Our thanks too to all who loaned photographs for the exhibition. Hopefully you have got them all safely back now.  Miss Margaret Folland, younger daughter of the Rector at the time, gave us a framed collection  of photographs that her mother took at the various stages of the re-building of the church.  We had not seen these before.
Thank you everyone for your support.  We raised £861.

The church took two years to build and was not dedicated until 1955.  Something else for us to celebrate in two years time!
John Timpson has written an article about Bawdeswell for the June issue of the Norfolk Journal.

There is a meeting of The Friends at Church View on Tuesday 10th June at 7.30pm.

We are always keen to extend our membership, and you can help us by taking part in our 100 Club Draw.   At the moment the draw is only Quarterly  (1st prize £100) because we have not reached 100 members yet.

The next Draw is due on  Saturday July 5th at a Coffee Morning in the Church 10.30am.  Do come along, no charge is made for coffee and biscuits, and  the last one was very well attended !

For information about the Friends please ring  688499 (evenings) or 688268.
