LETTERS & MESSAGES

I recently visited the lovely church in Bawdeswell and was much impressed by its grand appearance. The reason for the visit is this; In the August 2004 edition of  Suffolk Horse magazine is the following.
"A Mr Fenner had an indelible crayon that he kept for writing on war memorials. Whenever he found a blank space at the end of the list of the fallen, he would add the names of horses known to him personally who had sacrificed their lives for the country in WW1. At Bawdeswell he was caught by the vicar who threatened to call the police but a lady doing flowers in the church came to his aid. The lady had a plaque put up;- "In grateful memory of the horses of the British armed forces who gave their lives for their country in the Great War of 1914-1918" "They graze in the pastures of Heaven".
I would be most interested to find out if the plaque still survives. If you want to send the information to the Suffolk Horse Society, their e-mail is; sec@suffolkhorsesociety.org.uk.    many thanks, Andrew Height.

If anybody has any recollection of this, can they please let the Reeve’s Tale know. Ed
