BAWDESWELL
COMMUNITY PRE-SCHOOL
During
the summer there have been some major improvements to the premises. We
now have a lovely enclosed outside play area and the interior has been
totally redecorated. We are also in the process of planning a landscaped
area with some new outdoor climbing equipment.
The
first half term the topics have been Ourselves and Harvest. We have
talked about feelings and the children made models of themselves.
The children took part in a Harvest service at the local Church and their
families were invited along to watch.
This
month our topics will be Fireworks, Trees and Hibernation and we have lots
of exciting things planned for the children.

Waste
Watchers
The
schools Waste Action Club have been working hard with every class in school
to raise their awareness of the need to look after our environment.
Class 3 found we produced 4,500grams of waste in one day, (885,000 grams
in a year, the weight of an average car.) By re-cycling paper alone in
school has been able to reduce the number of bins we use. Class 2 have
been making compost. Class 1 found out about ‘Colin Cardboard’. Class 4
will be doing scientific investigations about waste materials.
Dog
Warden
We
had the Dog Warden from Breckland District Council in school on Monday
4th October, to talk to the children and to show a video about responsible
dog ownership.
Free
Fruit for Key Stage 1
You
may have heard about the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.
Under the scheme, each child aged four to six in LEA-maintained schools
will be entitled to receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school
day.
I
am delighted that our school has been given the opportunity to participate
in this exciting scheme, which reinforces our commitment to healthy eating.
It
is a great way to help us teach our children the benefits of health eating.
Sports
Our
football and netball teams are doing well in matches against other cluster
schools. Holt Rugby Club are teaching children Tag Ruby and the school
team will be taking part in a regional tournament. Good luck to all
that take part.
Music
Music
groups continue to thrive throughout the school, at the moment children
are able to learn to play recorder, piano, keyboard, guitar, flute, clarinet,
and steel pans.
It
has been a busy and productive start to the school year. Well done
everyone.
